BEE pilot is the experimental prototype infrastructure developed for the characterization of multi-layer dry nZEB Enabler Envelope Solutions facing health and safety requirements, focusing on tests and analysis of thermal, acoustic, photometric and comfort performances of innovative building envelope products and/or materials. BEEp is one of the nine Pilot Measurement and Verification Line developed and funded under the H2020 EU project MEZeroE (2021 – 2026).

What is MEZeroE?
MEZeroE is an EU funded project which aims to create a fertile ecosystem in the shape of a multi-side virtual marketplace, open to exploit cross-fertilization among stakeholders in the construction industry.
The ecosystem will provide turn-key start-up and upscaling services for: modelling, testing, and monitoring nZEB Enabler Envelope technology Solutions (nEES), while setting up a comprehensive knowledge management environment as well as tailored training.

MEZeroE – The Consortium
The MEZeroE Consortium represents a large portion of Europe, and the 26 partners can be clustered in 4 main categories:
- 10 RTD, including research centers, universities and laboratories with important testing infrastructures and high awareness of the market needs for performance characterization and certification;
- 10 IND, including innovation driven SMEs and bigger industry players;
- 3 M&V, including three complementary very dynamic SMEs ready to share a common data platform with a unique API as access point;
- 3 BIZ, including specialized SMEs enabling to develop, promote and exploit the MEZeroE open innovation platform as a multi-side virtual marketplace containing a demand/offer matching environment, as well as lot of contents to support innovation processes, knowledge transfer and performance-based product characterization.

MEZeroE – an innovative Open Ecosystem
MEZeroE offers an open ecosystem for the development, testing and upscaling of smart and bio-based, human-centric envelope products. By combining infrastructure facilities and the expertise of academic and research centers with innovative solutions proposed by industry, MEZeroE is committed to bringing profound – even disruptive – changes to the building market.
The aim of the MEZeroE project is to develop a European-distributed open innovation system for:
- developing nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB);
- transferring knowledges;
- matching testing needs with existing facilities;
- providing monitoring in living labs;
- standardizing cutting-edge solutions coming from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger industries, created to foster inclusive change in the building sector and to be accessible to all users via a single entry point.
BEEpilot has been developed within MEZeroE project, that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 953157. The information in this publication does not necessarily represent the view of the European Commission.
